Hello.
My name is Jennifer and I am a multidisciplinary designer at an intersection of service design and healthcare design.

Due to the amalgamation of the Liver Clinics team, it is expected that patient volume would increase and impact the Tropical Diseases and Immunodeficiency (HIV) units’ functionalities and patient experience.
How might a consolidated check-in reception space maintain or improve the integrity of the current patient flow and volumes on 13NU?

As Ontario enters Stage 3 of reopening, Mount Sinai Hospital has launched a new visitor policy phase, which will allow for one visitor at the bedside for every patient. About me
I started my professional career as a Structural Engineer with the privilege of being part of design teams to create commercial buildings and healthcare infrastructure. I then decided to take new heights in my professional career and made a lateral career move into the UX/CX design industry.
Throughout my professional career journey, I have witnessed and been through both successful and unprosperous projects. These experiences have shaped me to become the person I am today, and I want to devote myself to bring people together and to show that the best work happens when we work together.
Today, I am putting service design methodologies and user research into practice to empower professionals to enable innovation in healthcare design at Mount Sinai Hospital.
How I work
Collaboration
I enjoy collaborating, co-creating, and facilitating conversations with users and stakeholders. I believe that the best work can be created when groups of people collaborate, cross-pollinate ideas, and are able to listen and learn to each other in any design process.
Story-telling
Understanding each other can be a big challenge. Sometimes the traditional “talk meetings” can proceed without a clear purpose or agenda. This can lead to a lot of wasted time and, unfortunately, the audience may leave room with ambiguity and different ideas.
I enjoy taking complex technical ideas and distill them into user-friendly visuals to educate my audience in narrative prose with a goal to foster a collaborative ecosystem with my audience.
Empathy
I have the skills of listening, observing and empathizing with my audience. Repeating this process allows me to develop a deep understanding of my audience’s needs with the goal to come up with ideas that they will embrace.
In my spare time
To refresh my mind, I spend a decent amount of time travelling, hiking up mountains, and backcountry camping. I also do a fair share of landscape photography.
When I am not travelling, I run my own side hustle designing bespoke stationery for my clients, incorporating my watercolour floral paintings and copperplate calligraphy.
